Hello hello! It’s been nice doing so many events lately and getting to see so many people. And only a teeny bit frazzling! Both mine and C’s last big event of the fall (although we’ll also be at Books by the Banks in Cincinnati) is World Fantasy Convention in New Orleans this weekend. Here’s where you can find each of us there!
Gwenda’s Schedule

Alternate Story Forms: Comics - 1 p.m.
From earlier comics such as the Classic Illustrated Comic Books, through Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower and the current stories such as Victor LaValle’s Destroyer, this combination of art and prose can combine to tell compelling, penetrating, and important stories. How do the creators combine the two to get the desired intensity in their tales? What design choices enhance the final work and why do some stories lend themselves to the graphic novel and comic format?

Appalachian Fantasy and Horror - 5 p.m.
All along their length of the Appalachian Mountains, for all the thousands of years they have been inhabited, people have told stories. Fantasy and horror writers have drawn on both the geographical and sociological reality of the mountains almost since genre fiction came into flower. Now, the darker forms of fantasy are in full flower in Appalachia. This panel will discuss such stories, past and present, and consider why the region is such fertile ground for storytelling.

I’m looking forward to eating delicious food, seeing many people I haven’t seen since the before-times, and hopefully coming back sans Covid.
The rest of the year is a lot of burrowed in finishing a revision and writing a new book. There are already exciting things afoot for next year that I can’t tell you alllll about just yet, but the Audible Original series I’ve been writing with Kami Garcia and Sam Humphries is all turned in and will be one of them! We are very excited.
Feel free to drop a note if you have topics you’d like me to write about here, either in the comments or as replies. I do plan a big post on revision planning and also happy NaNo to anyone who is doing it! (I’m doing a very modified version.)
